Victoyr banjo looks just like a vega ?

$

I have been going through some of my forgotten banjos and came across what looks like a 10" poted similar to a tubaphone but it has a logo on the dowell stick victory banjo co. I converted one just like it many years ago and was unsure if it was made by vega. Any info on this model ? I can post pictures if I can find my camera. It has a vega looking banjolin style neck in really good condition. not sure if I want to sell it or convert it to an A Scale 5 string. pictures to come. Anyway I will be posting some of my banjo pots and tenors for sale if anyone is interested.

Greetings,

I have been offered this banjo locally for approx $200,   but can't seem to ID it.   The peghead shape seems very unique to me.

Can anyone offer any hints?

Gallontone/Framus Frankenstein build - identifying?

Hi All,

My first post here. So hope this is the correct forum. I found this banjo and was hoping to identify the age if possible and learn more about it in general. The body is framus and looks to be vintage with a floral design on it. I assume this was hand painted by someone...not sure it came this way ? I really have zero knowledge of banjos. The body has patina and a small binding issue. The gallontone neck is in bad shape. Fret board worn...frets missing etc.

Is there even a market for these as parts or is this just a decorative piece at this point to hang on a wall ?

Appreciate any help or support.

Parlor Chime, October 6, 1885

You can see my Parlor Chime here on my banjo hangout page. As you can see it is dated Oct 6 1885. It also has an internal resonator. I have decided to remove the steel strings but noticed the tail piece is dated 4/87. It is also of a type I have seen on banjos converted to steel strings as it has really no provision for tying gut strings to the existing tail piece. I've considered putting a Stewart tail piece on it as I can at least tie nylon strings to it. Does anyone have any information about what type of tail piece would be original equipment? For those interested, the internal resonator is also dated October 6 1885. Normally I play a later (1897) S.S. Stewart with steel strings and I am quite happy with it.

Buckley's New Banjo Method 1860 from Kentucky

Posing this in Collector's Corner, but It might be of interest to our "old time" banjo historians.

Here is a freshly scanned copy of "Buckley's New Banjo Method" by James Buckley (of Buckley's Serenades), copyright 1860.

archive.org/details/buckleys-n.../mode/2up

Thanks to Marc Smith (trapdoor2) for sharing his collection.

What is interesting to me is written on the title page in ink. "Nathaniel D. Lanis (or Canis I can't tell) Versailles Kentucky" and on the right top corner, "Woodford County".

This is presumably a former owner. The pen and ink and cursive font all look contemporary to the publication of the book but it could have been added at anytime.

Interesting to see a minstrel era instruction book (that was clearly well used) connected with Kentucky.

Morgan Monroe Identification?

Hey all,
This is my first post on the forum, I have a Morgan Monroe and can't find the serial number. It has Rocky Top written and inlayed on the 12th fret. I paid around $600 for it and it weighs about 12 pounds. Any idea what model this is?

Old-Time?

Somebody posted this on another site, and what caught my eye was that even back in 1928 the music was called Old-Time. The poster is by a recording company, but apparently the phrase was well-known enough to be used in advertising…

ISO Bob Spadoni's Banjos

This is an absolute long shot, but I am trying to locate any banjos once owned by Robert (Bob) Spadoni, from Easton PA. He played tenor and plectrum banjos, and he was in River City Banjos and the Water Gap Banjo Band. He owned a Bacon & Day, a Gibson (I think), and I'm not sure of the others. One of his banjos had RAS inlaid or engraved at the head. He passed away in 2009, while attending the Great Lakes International Banjo convention in Dearborn, MI.

Help identify my free Gibson

One of my best friends in the world gifted me this Gibson, and I’m having a hard time nailing down exactly what it is. It’s a ‘60s RB-100 neck (1968 I think-serial number is 959804) but the pot is somewhat of a mystery. No label, 2 coordinator rods, and a Mastertone ring. I’m looking for any ideas anyone more knowledgeable than I am might have. It’s a fantastic sounding banjo, and one of the most generous gifts I’ve ever received. It needs some work and a good setup. I’d love to have a new neck put on it, because this one had a pretty serious heel crack at some point, though it is stable. So if anyone has any leads on a good bowtie RB-250 neck let me know. Thanks a million!

Does anyone else feel a little sad when you see a Gibson prewar banjo being parted out (such as with 8215-7 recently) presumably to make a little extra money?

1926 TB-3 Conversion History

I have just purchased, but not yet taken delivery of a 1926 TB-3 conversion. The shipping from Nova Scotia to Manitoba is nerve racking. Anyway.
The serial number is 8415-1. I have lots of pictures of the banjo. The earliest history or story I have is that the banjo was purchased by Ian Tofte, from a receipt from McPeakes in 2006. I have private messaged Mr Tofte but perhaps he’s busy. Shipped to The UK. Then my seller purchased it sometime later and had it shipped to Nova Scotia.
Now I purchased it and am awaiting delivery. Anxiously.
The seller advises that the 5 string neck was made by McPeake and that everything else is original. He is including the tenor neck and hardware.
Does anyone out there have any more history information on this unit?
TIA

Thoughts on older TB3 conversion.

Not sure when it was done, could be several decades ago.
From my limited knowledge, it looks to be done true to a 1928 TB3 inlay pattern on fretboard and peg head.
It has the 40-hole archtop tone ring. Still has the 4-string tailpiece on it.

The FON in the rim and resonator match and are correct for a 1928 TB3.

I need to let go of this tb3 conversion and wondering what you all thought a fair price would be. I believe the pot is all original, including the punched presto. The neck is a nice older conversion from an unknown maker.

Nashville Standard - looking for additional info

Greetings,
I'm a bass player not a banjo player, just putting that out there.
I was given a banjo from a family member that passed on.
I'm trying to get some info on this thing, it says Nashville Standard on the headstock so I emailed Dave at Nashville Banjos, he says it's definitely not one of his.
He suggested I try the Banjo Hangout for assistance.

I tried to attach some pictures they didn't seem to make it, let me work on that...

Thanks in advance
